Patna : Deepak Lather, 18, India, won bronze medal in 69 kg weightlifting category at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2018, Australia, on April 6, 2018, increasing India’s medal tally to four including two golds. The Haryana boy, who is making his debut at the CWG 2018, has become the youngest Indian weightlifter to win CWG medal.
Deepak, a native of village Shadipur in Haryana, lifted a total of 295 kg – 136 kg in snatch and 159 kg in clean and jerk, to win the bronze medal. Gareth Evans, Wales, won the gold medal.
Sanjita Chanu and Mirabai Chanu, both from Manipur, won gold medal in weightlifting on April 6 and April 5, 2018, respectively. Gururaja Poojary had won silver in weightlifting on April 5. All the four medals of India have come in the weightlifting.
