Muzaffarpur: Sanjeev Kumar, an Income-tax department official in Mumbai, on November 14 won the second Gayatree Devi Memorial International Open Rating Chess tournament held at Muzaffapur 20161114_145812with 7.5 points. President of Muzaffarpur district Chess Association Dr Gunwant Mullick said Sanjeev Kumar was given a prize money of Rs 75,000, a memento and a medal.

Patna secretariat employee Vipul Subhashi was declared second with 7 points while a department of Post employee at Patna Sudhir Kumar Sinha was adjudged third. Vipul and Sinha won Rs 60,000 each as prize money besides getting memento and medal. Altogether 76 chess players including those from Bihar, Delhi, Bengal, Jharkhand and Punjab participated in the tournament, which began on November 9 and concluded on November 14, 2016, according to Muzaffarpur district Chess Association Secretary Himanshu Kumar. It is a FIDE run tournament.
