New Delhi : Sanitary Napkins were exempted from GST on July 21, 2018, as the GST Council reduced tax rates on adifferent daily use appliances and products. The GST on Sanitary Napkins was cut from 12 per cent to zero whie Rakhis were exempted from the tax, according to Finance Minister Piyush Goyal.
The GST rates on paints and varnishes, refigerators, water coolers, milk coolers, ice-cream freezers, washing machines, vacuum cleaners, domestic electrical appliances including food grinders and mixers, and televisions up 68 cm size have been brought down to 18 % from 28 %, according to a PIB release. Five percent GST is being extended to footwear having a retail sale price up to Rs 1,000 per pair. Footwear having a retail sale price exceeding Rs 1,000 per pair will continue to attract 18% GST.
