Patna: A Samastipur woman, who suffered serious burn injuries due to negligence of electricity authorities and her right arm had to be amputed to save her life, was on Thursday awarded Rs 1 lakh as compensation by North Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd (NBPDCL) following intervention by Bihar Human Rightd Commission(BHRC).
Tara Devi,35, wife of late Lakshman Mahto of Village Lelhaul under Singhia police station in Samastipur district had complained to Bihar Human Right Commission (BHRC) on that on May 5, 2015, while cutting grass near lada farm, she got electrocuted due to a 11 KV live hanging wire. After getting severely burnt she was sent toDarbhanga Medical College Hospital (DMCH) from where she was referred to Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH). Her right arm had to be amputed to save her life, said BHRC member Neelmani.
She further informed the BHRC that the live 11KV line had been was hanging at the village since long but despite information to various electricity authorities, power supply was not stopped. Despite her written complaint, no FIR was lodged. The Commission asked for action taken reports from MD, North Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd (NBPDCL), Patna, and SP, Samastipur. GM(HR/Admin), NBPDCL, his advocate, Addl. SP, Samastipu,and the petitioner assisted by her advocate appeared before the Commission on Thursday.
Neelmani said the Commission has been informed that NBPDCL , Patna, has sanctioned Rs.1 lakh as compensation to the victim and cheque was ready for delivery on thursday. The victim will also be provided artificial limb by Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), G.T Road, Kanpur and the entire cost shall be borne by NBPDCL. A criminal case has been registered with Singhia police station and will be investigated for criminal negligence, if any.
The BHRC directecd GM(HR/Admin),NBPDCL, to get an inquiry conducted into the complaint that despite intimation to various electrical authorities, supply of electricity was not stopped in the LT line and take necessary administrative action if allegations are found true, said Neelmani.The Commission is expecting a report from GM(HR/Admin), NBPDCL, Patna, by July 25,2016. The case will be listed for July 29, 2016.
