Sabalenka upsets World No 1 Barty in SFs of WTA Wuhan Open

Patna : Defending champion and 9th seed Aryna Sabalenka, 21, Belarus, upset top seed and World No 1 Ashleigh Barty, 23, Australia, in the semi-finals of Wuhan Open, one of the premier five tournaments on WTA Tour, at Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, on September 27, 2019, to advance to the final.

Sabalenka beat Barty in straight sets 7-5, 6-4 in the semi-finals. Both the players fired 5 Aces each in the match. The Australian committed 8 double faults to 4 by Sabalenka. Sabalenka won 3 break points in the match to 1 by the Australian. Both the players won 3 games each in a row in the match. But, Sabalenka won 58 service points to 39 by Barty.

Sabalenka will clash with World No 35 Alison Riske, 29, USA,  in the final on September 28, 2019. Riske beat two-time former Wimbledon Champion and World No 7 Petra Kvitová, 29, Czech Republic, the 5th seed, 7-5, 7-5 in the semi-finals. Riske won 4 break points to 2 by Kvitová. Kvitová won 52 service points to 48 by the American. Riske won 4 games in a row to 3 by Kvitová. The World No 7 fired 9 Aces in the match to 2 by Riske.
