Patna : South Africa (SA), who were cruising along at 148/1 at stumps on Day 1 on January 3, 2021,  in their first innings in 2nd test against Sri Lanka (SL) at The Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg, SA, collapsed to be all out for 302 in 75.4 overs as medium fast bowler Vishwa Fernando, 29, took 5/101.

SA opener Dean Elgar though scored 127 in 163 balls with 22 fours, his 13th test century, while Rassie van der Dussen scored 67 in 127 balls with 12 fours. SA took a first innings lead of 145 runs.

At stumps on Day 2, Sri Lanka were  150/4 in their 2nd innings with captain Dimuth Karunaratne (opener) unbeaten on 91 in 116 balls with 17 fours and Niroshan Dickwella unbeaten on 18. SA fast bowler Lungi Ngidi has taken 3/26 in 9 overs while fast bowler Anrich Nortje has taken 1/41 in 11 overs. Sri Lanka had scored 157 runs in their first innings and now lead by only 5 runs.

SL lost their first wicket that of opener Kusal Perera with only 1 run on board. Perera fell to Lungi Ngidi for 1. Karunaratne and Lahiru Thirimanne then added 85 runs for the 2nd wicket. Thirimanne also fell to Ngidi for 31 with 7 fours and it was 86/2. Kusal Mendis fell to Nigidi for a duck making it 92/3. Minod Bhanuka fell to Nortje for 1 making it 109/4.

Earlier resuming at their overnight score of 1481, SA lost their 2nd wicket at 218 runs when Dean Elgar fell to Dushmantha Chameera for 127. At the same score Rassie van der Dussen fell to medium fast bowler Dasun Shanaka for 67 making it 218/3. Faf du Plessis fell to Shanaka for 8 and it was 235/4.

Captain Quinton de Kock (wk) fell to Vishwa Fernando for 10 and it was 241/5. Wiaan Mulder also fell to Fernando for 7 making it 257/6. Spinner Keshav Maharaj fell to medium fast bowler Asitha Fernando for 2 and it was 262/7. Temba Bavuma fell to Vishwa Fernando for 19 making it 276/8. Anrich Nortje fell to Vishwa Fernand for13 making it 283/9. Lutho Sipamla fell to Vishwa Fernando for 5 and SA were all out for 302 with Vishwa Fernando running through the SA battying line-up.
