Patna : South Africa (SA) defeated India by 7 wickets in 2nd test at The Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg, SA, on rain affected day 4 on January 6, 2022, to level the three-match test series 1-1 as captain Dean Elgar (opener) scored an unbeaten 96 in 188 balls with 10 fours while Temba Bavuma remained 23 not out in 45 balls hitting 3 fours. Elgar and Bavuma added 68 runs in their unbroken partnership for the 4th wicket.
India had never lost a test match at The Wanderers Stadium in the past. It was their first defeat in 6 tests at The Wanderers. Elgar was named Player Of The Match.
Captain Elgar won the match for SA. First, he added 47 runs with fellow opener Aiden Markram (31) for the first wicket. He then added 46 runs for 2nd wicket with Keegan Petersen (28). Elgar then added 82 runs for the 3rd wicket with Rassie van der Dussen (40). Elgar finally added 68 runs with Temba Bavuma for 4th wicket.
Set a target of 240 runs, SA scored 243/3 in 67.4 overs. SA had scored 229 runs in their first innings. India had scored 202 runs in first innings and 266 runs in their 2nd innings.
