Patna : South Africa (SA) were 9/2 after 5 overs in their first innings in the 3rd test against India at JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi, Jharkhand, in the third session of play on day 2 on October 20, 2019, with Zubayr Hamza yet to open his account and captain Faf du Plessis unbeaten on 1, when play was stopped due to bad light.

Opener Dean Elgar, who had scored century in 1st test, fell to fast bowler Mohammad Shami for a duck while Quinton de Kock fell to fast bowler Umesh Yadav for 4.

Earlier, India declared their first innings at 497/9 just before tea with opener Rohit Sharma scoring 212, Ajinkya Rahane 115, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja 51, and Umesh Yadav 31.
