Patna : South Africa (SA) were 140/5 after 53 overs in at stumps on day 3 in their 2nd innings in 2nd test against New Zealand (NZ) at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, NZ, on February 27, 2022. SA, who had scored 364 runs in their first innings, lead by 211 runs.

At stumps on day 3, Kyle Verreynne (wk) was unbeaten on 22 while William Mulder was batting on 10. Opener Sarel Erwee, who had scored 108 runs in first innings, fell to fast medium bowler Tim Southee for 8 making it 12/1. His opening partner Dean Elgar ( captain) also fell to Southee for 13 and it was 23/2. Aiden Markram fell to Matt Henry for 14 making it 38/3. Rassie van der Dussen fell to fast medium bowler Neil Wagner for 45 and it was 103/4. Temba Bavuma also fell to Wagner for 23 making it 115/5.

Earlier resuming at their overnight score of 157/5, NZ were all out for 293 runs in 80 overs in their first innings with batting all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme scoring an unbeaten 120 in 158 balls hammering 12 fours and 3 sixes, his 2nd test century while Daryl Mitchell scored 60 in 134 balls with 8 fours. Mitchell and Grandhomme added 133 runs for the 6th wicket.

For SA, fast bowler Kagiso Rabada took 5/60 in 19 overs while fellow fast bowler Marco Jansen took 4/98 in 22 overs. Spinner Keshav Maharaj took 1 wicket.
