Patna : The opposition parties on August 22, 2017, created ruckus in Bihar legislative assembly during its pre-lunch session demanding immediate resignation of CM Nitish Kumar and Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi alleging they had patronised the accused of Srijan fund transfer scam and a fair probe into it was not possible till they continued on their respective posts. Speaker, Bihar assembly, Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, adjourned the House before lunch break.

As the House re-assembled, senior RJD leader and former Finance Minister Abdul Bari Siddiqui raised the issue of Srijan scam and requested the Speaker to accept the adjournment notice moved by his party. The Speaker asked him to co-operate in transacting the scheduled business of the House and the first question was related to the Srijan scam. The Speaker said the government would also reply to the queries of the members and a Call Attention Notice would also come up the same day. But, Siddiqui kept insisting on a debate over the issue immediately.

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar has already recommended for CBI probe into the scam. Police have so far arrested 18 persons in connection with the scam of which a key accused Mahesh Mandal, a Nazir in District Co-opertive office, Bhagalpur, died at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital, Bhagalpur, on August 20, 2017, night due to kidney ailment and diabetes. Bhagalpur police has lodged 9 FIRs in this connection while Saharsa police has lodged one. A few former Bhagalpur DMs are likely to be quizzed soon.
