Saharsa : Saharsa DM Vinod Singh Gunjiyal on August 22, 2017, directed Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Saurabh Jorwal, IAS, to inquire into the neglect of a pregnant woman of Madhepura district Nikki Devi by the doctor and nurses concerned at Sadar Hospital, Saharsa, resulting in the death of her child during delivery on August 21, and take appropriate action. Nikki Devi was admitted to Saharsa Sadar Hospital on August 21 morning.

Saharsa SDO Jorwal described the incident as a serious matter and said action would be taken after the inquiry. Saharsa Civil Surgeon Dr Ashok Kumar Singh has also set up a probe committee to inquire into the incident. The committee has begun its probe into the incident. Dr Singh said that appropriate action would be taken against the doctor and nurses concerned on the basis of the inquiry report.

Meanwhile, Hospital Manager Vinay Kumar Jha, a member of the probe committee, said that no nurse had collected money from Nikki Devi’s kin for her delivery. He also claimed that Nikki’s mother Vimal Devi, in her FIR lodged with the Sadar Police Station, Saharsa, had made two nurses and a doctor named accused in conection with August 21 incident but nurses bearing those names do not work at the hospital. Sadar Police station is also inquiring into the incident.
