Patna : Rajasthan Royal (RR) defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 30 runs in a must win 53rd match of IPL 2018 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, Rajasthan, on May 19, 2018, night, riding on a superb spin bowling display by Ramaswamy Shreyas Gopal, 24, and an unbeaten 80 in 58 ball with 5 fours and 3 sixes by their opener Rahul Tripathy. The RR were all over the RCB despite posting a modest 164/5 in 20 overs. With this defeat, RCB are now out of the tournament as they have only 12 points from 14 matches while RR have 14 points from 14 matches.

Chasing a target of 165 to win this match, RCB were all out for 134 in 19.2 overs with Shreyas Gopal taking 4/16 in 4 overs and Ben Laughlin, 35, Australia, taking 2/15 in 2 overs even as A B de Villers, South Africa, made 53 in 35 ball with 7 fours and opener Parthiv Patel scored 33 in 21 ball hitting 3 fours and 2 sixes.

RCB captain Virat Kohli was bowled by spinner Krishnappa Gowtham for just 4. Moeen Ali, England, was also out for just 1 while Mandeep Singh was out for 3. Colin de Grandhomme was out for 2 while Sarfaraz Khan made 7.  Gopal took the wickets of Parthiv Patel, de Villiers, Moeen Ali, and Mandeep Singh. RR fast bowler Jayde Unadkat also took 2/27 in 3.2 overs. Spinners Ish Sodhi, New Zealand, and Krishnappa Gowtham, 29, Karnataka, also took one wicket each. Ben Laughlin took two wickets in 2 balls.

In the RR innings, apart from Tripathy, captain Ajinkya Rahane made 33. Wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen made 32 in 21 ball hitting 3 fours and a six while Krishnappa Gowtham was run out for 14 in 5 ball hitting 2 sixes.  For RCB, Umesh Yadav took 3/25 in 4 overs.
