Patna : Rohit Sharma on October 5, 2019, became the first batsman ever to score two centuries in a test match on debut as an opener when he hit Vernon Philander for 1 to score his second century in the match in the 2nd innings of 1st Test against South Africa (SA) at Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam, in the post -tea session on Day 4 as India progressed to 244/3 India lead by 314 runs.
Rohit, who had scored 176 in 1st innings with 23 fours and 6 sixes, scored 127 in 149 balls with 10 fours and 7ixes. Ravindra Jadeja is batting on 17 while captain Virat Kohli is batting on 2.
Rohit and Cheteswar Pujara added 169 runs for the 2nd wicket. Pujara fell to Vernon Philander for 81 in 148 balls with 13 fours and a six making it 190/2. Rohit hit spinner Dane Piedt for three consecutive sixes in his 14th over, the 56th over of 2nd innings. Rohit, the Hit-Man, hit Dane Piedt for 5 sixes and Keshav Maharaj for 2 sixes in 2nd innings. Rohit added 49 runs for 3rd wicket with Jadeja.
