Rising incidents of rape in Bhojpur causing concern to people

Ara : Rising incidents of rape and gangrape in Bhojpur district has become a matter of serious concern to the people. At least two rape cases are registered every month in the district and 13 rape cases have been reported in the first six months of 2018. In 2017, only 13 rape cases were registered in the district. Police have arrested several accused but failed to check recurrence of such incidents.

Women are also not safe in trains and even at their houses. A man outraged the modesty of his three year old niece when she was sleeping under Charpokhari police station area on June 25, 2018, though police arrested the accused Sanjay Ram, son of Naresh Ram, and sent him to jail.  A minor girl was raped at village Majhiaw under Charpokhari police station on January 9, 2018, while a woman was gangraped at village Pawana under Pawana police station on January 27, 2018.

On February 6, 2018, a girl student was gangraped at village Padminia under Krishnagarha police station while on February 9, 2018, a girl student was raped at village Dhrubdihan under Charpokhari police station. On February 23, 2018, a minor girl was raped at village Maniachchh  under Pawana police station.

At village Gundi under Krishnagarha police station, a woman was raped on March 21, 2018, and on March 17, 2018, a ten year old girl was raped at village Kasap under Udwantnagar police station. On March 9, 2018, a minor girl was gangraped at village Andhari under Chauri police station while on March 3, 2018, a 10 year old girl was raped at village Kayamnagar under Koelwar police station.

A minor girl was raped at village Majhaua under Ara Town police station on April 22, 2018.  On May 14, 2018, a minor girl was raped at village Madanpur under Narayanpur police station. On May 27, 2018, miscreants intruded a house and outraged modesty of a minor girl at Nonia Tola village under Dhangai police station.

Bhojpur SP Awakash Kumar said that 13 rape cases had been reported so far this year from  different police stations in the district and added that the names of eve-teasers and perpetrators of crimes against women would be registered in the ‘Gunda Resigter’. He said that police are keeping round the clock vigil at vulnerable points such as coaching centres, girls schools and colleges, parks, restaurants and public places and added that police patrolling would be further intensified.

Meanwhile, talking to this reporter over the issue several women held the government responsible for rising incidents of crime against wome. Rekha, Soni, Meera, Kashish, Ragini, Vandana Kumari, all students of Intermediate, Juhi, Zubeda, and Afrin of Bachelor courses strongly condemned the incidents of rape and said that they felt insecure everywhere due to lack of security arrangement at public places. They also held western style of living, culture, dress, deteriorating moral and culture values, foeticide  and imbalance in man and woman ratio, responsible for crime against women.

Principal, Mahadevanand Mahila College, Abha Singh, Anamika Kesari, a college student, Ashwini Devendra Bhagat, a housewife, Anuradha, a teacher, stressed on moral education in schools and colleges to check such crimes. They stated that most of such cases were not being registered either by police or by family members due to social stigma.
