New Delhi : Union Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy on October 17, 2019, inaugurated the 20th All India Conference of Directors of Fingerprint Bureaus organised by NCRB here.

The conference was attended among others by Director, NCRB, Ram Phal Pawar, Joint Secretary (Women Safety) MHA Punya Salila Srivastava, and senior police officers from central police organisations/ States/UTs.  Around 80 Fingerprint experts/delegates from across the country attended the inaugural function.

Addressing the gathering, Reddy highlighted the importance of fingerprints in crime investigation and appreciated the efforts of NCRB in rolling out the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS), a network based pan India system for recording and sharing of fingerprints of criminals in various crimes. He also expressed satisfaction that Central Fingerprint Bureau in NCRB is following best practices in maintaining fingerprint records of criminals, according to a PIB release.

Director, NCRB, Ram Phal Pawar, said that implementation of NAFIS will help Police in solving crime cases quickly and emphasised the need to have adequate strength in the State Fingerprint Bureaus. Joint Secretary (Woman Safety) Punya Salila Srivastava stressed on capacity building of Fingerprint fraternity through collaboration with academic institutions and international agencies.
