Patna : The Customs Office, Raxaul, in East Champaran district of North Bihar, on February 17, 2017, seized 39 copper idols, all related to Buddha, from an Enova car at Raxaul. The car was also seized. Both the idols Raxaul customs office.

The idols were seized as they were being carried from Nepal side without any valid paper ( Import Bill), said Deputy Commissioner, Customs, Raxaul, Santosh Kumar. Car owner Shahshikant and driver, who hail from Gaya, were detained for around three hours but were released later as they were not carrying any contraband items. The idols were being taken to Bodh Gaya allegedly for sale. Raxaul Customs office has informed the Gaya Customs office about the seizure of idols and subsequent investigation.

Raxaul is a sub-divisional town of East Champaran on Indo-Nepal border and is 194 km away from Patna. It is the only Bihar town having direct train connection to Birganj in Nepal.
