New Delhi : Indian Railways (IR) is making all out efforts to replace all its existing fleet of coaches with Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches. It has been decided that the production units of Indian Railways would be manufacturing only LHB coaches from the year 2018-19 onwards. The approved production target of LHB coaches for 2018-19 is 3,025 coaches.
Altogether 5,144 LHB coaches have been produced by the Railways since 2014-15. This includes 555 LHB coaches in 2014-15, 1,044 in 2015-16, 1,469 in 2016-17, and 2,076 in 2017-18 ( till February 2018). This information was made available in reply to a question in Rajya Sabha, according to a PIB release.
