Patna :  World No 128 Gianluca Mager, 25, stunned top seed & World No 4 Dominic Thiem, 26, Austria, in the quarter-finals of Rio Open, an ATP World Tour 500 event played on outdoor clay courts at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on February 22, 2020, late night, to enter the semi-finals of the tournament, his first ATP tour SFs.

Gianluca Mager, a qualifier, beat Australian Open 2020 finalist Dominic Thiem in straight sets 7-6, 7-5 in 1 hr 55 minutes to move into the semi-finals . Mager won 3 break points in the match to 2 by the Austrian. Both the players 3 games each in a row in the match. Mager, in all, won 89 points to 77 by Thiem. The Italian fired 4 Aces in the match to just 1 by Thiem. The Italian won 55 service points to 48 by the Austrian.
