Ara  : A massive procession was taken out on Mahavir Jayanti from Shanti Nath temple on Jail road on April 9, 2017, that passed through the main thoroughfares of Ara town and culminated at H P D Jain School where idol of lord Mahavir, the 25th Tirthankar of Jains, is placed on the pandukshila and his abhishek was done with 108 kalash.

Pandukshila is the place from where lord Mahavir is supposed to have gone to heaven after his mahaparinirvan. Hundreds of men, women, children of Jain community joined the procession chanting Lord Mahavir’s preaching ‘Jio aur Jine do’ and `Bhagwan Mahavir ki Jai’ that rent the air. Elephants and camels and horses added charm to the procession. Indra-Indrani on chariot, carrying idol of Lord Mahavir, was leading the procession. People showered flowers and offered Aarti on way on Lord Mahavir and chariot. Agrasen Samiti had set up stall at different places and offered fruits and sharbat to the devotees.

A colourful cultural programme was also organized at the Shanti Nath Temple on the occasion and successful participants in the quiz, essay, debate and bhajan competitions were given prizes.
