Motihari : Priyanka Jaiswal was on Thursday elected as the new chairperson of Motihari Zila Parishad defeating her nearest rival Mamata Rai by five votes in an election held at Radha Krishna Bhawan. Priyanka Jaiswal, wife of BJP leader and former MLA Pawan Jaiswal, secured 30 votes while Mamata Rai, wife of Shashi Bhushan Rai, an RJD leader, got 25 votes. One vote was declared invalid.Kamleshwar Singh was elected unopposed as vice chairman.

Zila Parishad members, Bindu Devi of Kalyanpur could not participate in the election. She told newsmen that she was not allowed to enter in the election hall by the magistrates deputed there on the ground that she reached Radha Krishna Bhawan too late while the time fixed for it was 11 am. She alleged that she was confined to a local hotel by
a candidate for the post of chairperson for the last two days and somehow reached the venue to participate in the election.
