Ara: Priyam Devi, newly elected ward councillor from the ward no 44, was elected Mayor of Ara Municipal Corporation (AMC) while Malti Devi, ward councillor from ward no 06, was elected Deputy Mayor of the AMC. Both were declared uncontested on June 9, 2017.
Priyam Devi is the wife of outgoing Mayor AMC Sunil Kumar. Sunil Kumar did not contest the election as his ward no 44 was reserved for the woman. Priyam Devi became Mayor uncontested. But, Ruby Kumari, councilor of ward no 16, had filed her nomination for the post of Deputy Mayor against Malti Devi but her form was rejected due to technical fault.
Bhojpur District Magistrate Birendra Prasad Yadav administered oath of office to both Mayor and Deputy Mayor, AMC, at Krishi Bhawan in the presence of a supervisor Gopal Krishna Paramhans, Additional Secretary, Water Resource Department. He was appointed supervisor by the State Election Commission. The DM also administered oath of office to all the 44 of 45 newly elected ward councillors on June 9. Election of ward was countermanded due to death one of the candidates Bhagwati Devi on poll day. The DM also handed over victory certificates to all of them.
Nagar Panchayat: Mukesh Kumar was elected chairperson of Jagdishpur Nagar Panchayat while Arjun Prasad was elected Deputy Chairperson. In Shapur Nagar Panchayat, Vashishth Prasad was elected Chairperson and Ramesh Ram, Deputy Chairperson.
Deepak Kumar and Baby Devi were elected Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson respectively of Bihia Nagar Panchayat. Hadishan Khatoon was elected Chairperson and Santosh Kumar Deputy Chairperson of Piro Nagar Panchayat. In Koelwar Nagar Panchayat, Binod Kumar and Shabnam Bano were elected chairperson and Deputy Chairperson respectively.
