Patna : The President of India Ram Nath Kovind on March 19, 2019, appointed Supreme Court Judge Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghosh as the first Lokpal of India. Justice Ghosh, nearing 67, retired from the Supreme Court on May 27, 2017.  At present, he is Member, NHRC.

A Selection Committee comprising PM Narendra Modi, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Ranjan Gogoi, Speaker, Lok Sabha, Sumitra Mahajan, and leading Jurist Mukul Rohtagi had recommended the name of Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghosh for the post of Lokpal,the anti-corruption ombudsman. Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghosh has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Lokpal.

Justice Dilip B Bhosale, Justice Pradip Kumar Mohanty, Justice Abhilasha Kumari, and  Justice Ajay Kumar Tripathi have been appointed as Judicial Members of the Lokpal.

Dinesh Kumar Jain, former Chief Secretary, Maharashtra, former SSB Chief Archana Ramasundaram, Mahender Singh, and Dr Indrajeet Prasad Gautam have been appointed as Non- Judicial Members of the Lokpal.

The above appointments will take effect from the dates the appointees assume charge of their respective offices, according to a PIB release.
