Muzaffarpur: Pregnant women are hardly getting Iron and Calcium tablets at primary health centres (PHCs) and even Sadar hospital, Muzaffarpur, though there is standing order from Muzaffartpur district administration to hold camps in both urban and rural areas to check them and provide them required medicine on 9th and 21st day of every month.
In fact, the maternity protection campaign has virtually remained a non-starter in Muzffarpur district though Civil Surgeon Dr Lalita Singh claimed that pregnant women were being provided required medicine in the district. Pregnant women are being examined only in few blocks but even there they are not given medicine. Muzaffarpur district does not have a data base of pregnant men. The district has so far achieved only 28 % of the target of checking such women and provide them required medicine.
