Motihari : A pregnant woman Sabina Khatoon gave birth to a female child on a motorboat while being taken to Motihari Sadar Hospital from her village Gobari by an NDRF team after she developed labour paid.

The NDRF team is engaged in  relief and rescue operations under marooned Banjariya block near Motihari, headquarters of East Champaran district in North Bihar, for the last 5 days. The NDRF team was carrying the woman to the  Sadar Hospital  but she gave birth to a baby girl on the motorboat safely. The mother and newborn baby are fine and are admitted to Banjariya Health Centre.

Nine panchayats under Banjariya Block are reeling under the fury of Burhi Gandak flood for the  last 5 days and thigh deep water is flowing in almost all the  villages.  According to  the villagers, Sabina Khatoon of Gobari village developed labour pain  and her family members had no means to take her to the hospital. Mahendra Singh Dhami, Commandant, 9th Corps, NDRF, stationed at Motihari got information about it and he passed on the information to Vijay Jha, Sub-Inspector, NDRF, and his team engaged in relief and rescue operations in the area.

The NDRF team rushed to Gobari village and were carrying Sabina Khatoon with her family members and ASHA worker but she delivered the child on the boat en route hospital. This was the 10th case of delivery in which the NDRF team had responded quickly.
