Patna : World No 22 B Sai Praneeth, 26, India, stunned reigning Olympic men’s singles champion Chen Long, 30, China, in the semi-finals of Yonex Swiss Open 2019, a BWF World Tour Super 300 level tournament, at St Jakobshalle Basel, Basel, Switzerland, on March 16, 2019, to reach the men’s final of the event. Praneeth will face top seed and World No 2 Shi Yuqi, 23, China, in the final on March 17, 2919.
Praneeth upset World No 5 and two-time former World Champion Chen Long in straight games 21-18, 21-13 in 46 minutes in the semi-finals. Praneeth completely dominated the second game and at 14-12 won 5 points in a row to lead 19-13. Praneeth won 42 rallies in the match to 31 by Chen Long. Long, however, still leads Praneeth 2-1 head to head.
Shi Yuqi defeated World No 8 and 4th seed Anthony Sinisuka Jinting, 22, Indonesia, 21-9, 21-17 in 41 minutes in the semi-finals. Yuqi won 42 rallies in the match to 26 by Jinting. Yuqi won 10 consecutive points in the match to 3 by Jinting. Yuqi now leads Jinting 6-0 head to head.
