Power consumption index of development : Minister

Patna : Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power R K Singh on September 19, 2017, said that the NDA government headed by PM Narendra Modi has been trying to make India the number one country in the world in both generation and consumption of power. At present, India is the third largest country in power generation but fourth largest in power consumption, Singh said.

Singh, the BJP MP from Ara and a former Union Home Secretary, said that consumption of power is an index of development. Singh, who was felicitated at state BJP Headquarters here after being appointed a Union Minister recently, said that more power consumption shows that people were using more and more electronic gadgets and equipment. Bihar BJP President Nityanand Rai, MP, senior party leaders Nagendraji, Ganga Prasad, Gyanendra Singh and BJP MLAs : Gyanu, Nitin Navin and Niraj Kumar Singh were also present on the occasion.

The Union Minister appreciated Bihar government for doing goodwork in power sector saying it has done better than other states in carrying out rural electrification. He asked all the states to submit list of those villages which had not yet been electrified. Singh stressed on installation of `pre paid meters’ to check power pilferage. He said the revenue collection has gone up with the installation of pre-paid meters as some states have adopted it and Bihar government should also go for it.
