Bagaha: Travelling on NH 28 (B) in West Champaran district connecting Bagaha – Chhitauni Gandak rail cum road bridge to Kushinagar  in Uttar Pradesh (UP) has become risky but the vehicle owners have no option than pass through it in the absence of any alternative.

The people of West Champaran in Bihar and Kushinagar district in UP and even of Nepal are facing great hardship while passing through the road due to its deplorable condition. The inordinate delay on the part of National highway authority of India (NHAI) in repairing the Bettiah -Bagaha via Lauria NH 28(B) discourages tourists from visiting the historic tourist spots and Valmiki tiger reserve (VTR) in the district. Vehicles carrying heavy loads were often seen trapped in the potholes and ditches on the road paralysing the traffic.

Many social and political activists like Bidya Prasad (JP movement activist), Bhunarain Yadav (BJP),Dayanand Devedi, CPI(ML), Ramesh Ram (Congress), Shrikisun Ram(HAM), Brajeshwar Rao(LJP) have damanded immediate repair of the road. A large number of people led by Ramesh Fauzi had blocked the road  near Chhotakipatti Baragaon on September 25, 2016, demanding immediate repair of the NH besides other link roads. They held the NHAI authorities responsible for the poor condition of NH 28 (B) sa ying ever since transfer of  the state highway to NH 28 (b) no work was done on it.

Meanwhile, Valmikinagar MP Satish Chandra Dubey, has said that considering the pitiable condition of about 72 km long NH 28(B) that passes through the district, Union Minister for road transport, highways and shipping , Nitin Gadkari, has sanctioned Rs 389.24 and the work will begin shortly.  I
