Sasaram : Indrapuri area under Sasaram Town police station in Rohtas district turned into a battle field between police and the people after body of one Saroj Kumar Gupta was found floating in the canal near Bheshahi Bridge on July 30, 2019.
Police, in their bid to arrest Saroj Kumar Gupta, allegedly a liquor smuggler, chased him on July 29 but he jumped into a canal near Bhaluahi to escape arrest and drowned. His body was found floating in the canal at Bheshahi Bridge on July 30.
As the news spread, the residents of the area got agitated and pelted cops with stones in which six of them received minor injuries. The protesters also damaged two police vehicles. Police resorted to lathicharge besides firing several rounds in the air to disperse the unruly mob. The clash between police and people continued for about two hours. Late, brought the body to the Sasaram Sadar Hospital for post-mortem.
