Muzaffarpur : The re-opening of a 2010 Muzaffarpur rape case has exposed the indifferent attitude of police in such extremely sensitive cases. City SP, Muzaffarpur, Neeraj Kumar, recently noticed this ten year old case during review of old cases and directed a Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Rajpat Kumar to record statement of the survivor.
But, the police apathy in the case had annoyed the father of the victim to such an extent that when a Muzaffarpur Town police team went to Akhadaghat Road locality in connection with investigation of the case, he sent it back saying police had lost its credibility. He said that police have woken up to their duty after lapse of 10 years. The father of the survivor reportedly asked the SI to immediately leave his residence and close the case. He told the SI that he does not want justice from police as it had lost its credibility and suggested change in the culture of policing in Bihar.
The girl was allegedly raped by a neighbor in August 2010 and her father had gone to Town police station to lodge a case but police
refused to lodge the FIR. After that he filed a case in the court of CJM, Muzaffarpur, and the court referred the matter to Town police station directing it to lodge an FIR and investigate the case it. Police lodged an FIR on August 22, 2010, but no further action was taken taken on it. During the period of police inaction, the survivor got married while the accused has left Muzaffarpur.
