Patna : Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) is likely to distribute customised Khadi uniform sets among its 4,000 male and female sanitation workers (Safai Karmachari) on October 2, 2018, to mark the 150th birthday celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi.
The PMC had decided to purchase customised Khadi uniform sets from the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) for its 4,000 male and female Safai Karmacharis. It had also placed a consignment order for the same and is likely to sign a three-year-agreement with KVIC for supply of Khadi and village industries products.
The order was placed for supply of Khadi uniform sets for sanitation workers including 8,000 sets of shirt and pant (for men), 8,000 sets of salwar kurta (for women), 4,000 pairs of sandals, 4,000 pairs of shoes/boots and 4,000 pieces of cap, by August 15 this year. But, the consignment did not reach here on time. The PMC now hopes to launch the new dress code for sanitation workers on Gandhi Jayanti, October 2, 2018. The value of this order is approximately Rs 2 Crore.
Besides, the PMC has also signed a three-year agreement with KVIC for supply of woolen Khadi clothes during the winter season, according to a KVIC release.
PMC will be issuing 4,000 of its workers 2 sets of 2-piece uniform from October 2, 2018, according to PMC Deputy Commissioner Vishal Anand. The workers will get the uniform every 6 months, he added.
