Patna : PM Narendra Modi, in his address to the nation at 8 pm, announced complete lockdown in India starting March 24, 2020, mid-night, for 21 days to check spread of novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic exercising social distancing.PM Modi asked the people not to go out of their houses for 21 days.

Meanwhile, the number of confirmed cases of Coronavirus surged to 519 country at 5-45 pm on March 24, 2020. This figure includes 43 foreigners, 40 cured/discharged. migrated case, and 9 deaths. The figure was 492 at 8.45 am on the day.

Kerala tops the list with 95 active cases including 8 foreigners followed by Maharashtra with 89 cases including 3 foreigners. Gujarat has reported 33 active cases while Delhi has reported 30 such cases. Karnataka has reported 37 active cases while UP has reported 33 cases. In Punjab, the number of active cases jumped to 29 while in Telangana it has surged to 35. In Rajasthan, the number of active cases is 32 while in Haryana it is 28 including 14 foreigners.

In Bihar, the number of COVID-19 confirmed cases has increased to 3 of which one patient died recently while West Bengal has reported 9 active cases and MP 7. UT Ladakh and J&K have reported 13 and 4 active cases respectively. Andhra Pradesh has reported 8 active cases while Chhattisgarh has reported 1 case and Himachal Pradesh 3.
