Pliskova, Svitolina & Azarenka enter 3rd round of Wimbledon Championships

Patna : World No 3 Karolina Pliskova, 27, Czech Republic, and two-time former Australian Open Champion and World No 40 Victoria Azarenka, 29, Belarus, advanced to the women’s singles 3rd round of Wimbledon Championships, London, UK, on July 3, 2019.

Pliskova beat reigning Olympic Champion Monica Puig, 25, Puerto Rico, 6-0, 6-4 in the second round. Third seed Pliskova won 5 break points in the match to just 1 by Monica Puig, the World No 52. Pliskova won 7 games in a row in the match to just 1 by Puig. The Czech star fired 9 Aces in the match to 1 by Puig.

Azarenka crushed World N0 49 Ajla Tomljanovic, 26, Australia, 6-2, 6-0 in the 2nd round. Azarenka won 6 break points in the match to 1 by Tomljanovic. Azarenka won 12 games in a row during the match to 2 by the Australian.

World No 8 Elina Svitolina, 24, Ukraine, entered the 3rd round after 2nd round opponent Margarita Gasparyan, 24, Russia, the World No 62,  retired due to injury in the second set. Margarita had won the first set 7-5 and was trailing 5-6 in the second set when she retired.
