Bokaro (Jharkhand) : To celebrate the beauty that nature brings into our lives and to cultivate a sense of responsibility among students towards the environment, a two-day Plant Exhibition cum Competition ‘Phulwari’ was organised at DPS Bokaro in Jharkhand on January 31, 2020.
Over 3,000 plants were exhibited at the show that includes collection of diverse flora nurtured by the students in diversified categories like- Seasonal Flowers, Medicinal Plants, Vegetables, Fruits, Decorative Plants, Non-flowering and Medicinal Plants.
The exhibition was inaugurated by GM, Environment Control Division, BSL, N P Srivastava. Srivastava, in his inaugural address, expressed his happiness on seeing the active participation of students in a large number. He urged them to nurture the plants and show belongingness towards the environment. He added that DPS Bokaro is a trendsetter in promoting environment friendly projects. He appreciated the school and its Principal for the green initiatives and for being recognised as the Futuristic School of India in the category of Environ Engage.
The exhibition was followed by a competition which was judged by Nimisha Rani, Shewta Singh, and Tanushree Ghosh in the Primary Wing while Neelam Singh, Shobhna Panwar, and Vineeta Sinha were the judges in the Senior Wing. The best species of plants were selected on the basis of their health, soil, texture, and economic significance.
Principal, DPS Bokaro, A S Gangwar, said that the idea behind organising Phulwari was to sensitise the students towards their responsibility for the environment. It will impart a new and sustainable perspective to the students, he said.
