Patna : Pakistan beat England by 14 runs in the 6th match of ICC World Cup at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, UK, on June 3, 2019, night, with fast bowler Wahab Riaz taking 3/82 in 10 overs while Mohammad Amir took 2/67 in 10 overs. Spinner Shadab Khan, 20, took 2/63 in 10 overs. Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik took one wicket each. Replying to Pakistan’s 348/8 in 50 overs, England finished at 334/9 in 50 overs. England had won the toss and opted bowl.
England lost the match even as two of its batsmen : Joe Root and Jos Buttler, score splendid centuries. Joe Root, who scored 107 in 104 balls with 10 fours and a six, became the first batsman to score century in the ICC World Cup 2019. Buttler soon followed suit scoring 103 in 76 balls with 9 fours and 2 sixes.
Root and Buttler added 130 runs for the 5th wicket. Root fell to spinner Shadab Khan while Buttler fell to Mohammad Amir. England lost their first wicket at 12 when opener Jason Roy fell to Shadab Khan for 8. His opening partner Jonny Bairstow fell to Wahab Riaz for 32 in 31 balls hitting 4 fours and a six. Captain Eoin Morgan fell to spinner Mohammad Hafeez for 9. Ben Stokes made 19 with a four while Chris Woakes scored 21 with a four and a six. Moeen Ali scored 19 with a four.
Batting first, Pakistan made 348/8 with Babar Azam scoring 63, Mohammad Hafeez 84, and captain Safraz Ahmed (wk) 55. Opener Imam-ul-Haq scored 44 while his opening partners Fakhar Zaman scored 36. Hafeez was declared Player of the Match.
