Patna : Fifteen wickets fell on day 1 of the first test between South Africa and Pakistan at SuperSport Park, Centurion, South Africa, on December 26, 2018. Electing to bat after winning the toss, Pakistan were all out for 181 in 47 overs with Duanne Olivier, 26, taking 6/37 in 14 overs and Kagiso Rabada 3/59. Dale Steyn took 1/66.

For Pakistan, Babar Azam top scored with 71 in 79 balls with 15 fours while Azhar Ali scored 36 in 69 balls with 7 fours. Captain and wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed was out for a duck fast bowler Hasan Ali remained unbeaten on 21 in 28 balls with 2 fours and a six. Openers Imam-ul- Haq and Fakhar Zaman were out for zero and 12 respectively. Shan Masood made 19 while Asad Shafiq scored 7.

In reply, South Africa were 127/5 after 36 overs at stumps on day 1 with Temba Bavuma batting on 38 in 47 balls with 6 fours and Dale Steyn on 13 in 13 balls with 2 fours. Theunis de Bruyn scored 29 in 71 balls with 3 fours and a six. Bavuma and Bruyn added 69 runs for the fifth wicket. Openers Aiden Markram and Dean Elgar were out for 12 and 22 respectively while Hashim Amla was out for 8. Captain Faf du Plessis fell to fast bowler Shaheen Afridi for duck making it 43/4. South Africa trail by 54 runs.

For Pakistan, Shaheen Afridi has so far taken 2/33 while Mohammad Amir has taken 2/26. Hasan Ali has taken one wicket.
