Patna : Pakistan were reduced to 33/4 in 18 overs in their first innings at stumps on Day 1 in the 1st test against South Africa (SA) at National Stadium, Karachi, Pakistan, with fast bowler Kagiso Rabada taking 2/8 in 6 overs while fellow fast bowler Anrich Nortje took 1/20 in 7 overs. Spinner Keshav Maharaj has taken one wicket without conceding any run in 2 overs. In fact, 14 wickets fell on Day 1 as SA were all out for 220 runs earlier on the day. Pakistan trail by 187 runs.

Pakistan lost their first wicket that of opener Abid Ali with only 5 runs on board. Abid Ali fell to Kagiso Rabada for 4. His opening partner Imran Butt also fell to Rabada for 9 and it was 15/2. Captain Babar Azam fell lbw to spinner Keshav Maharaj for 7 making it 26/3. Shaheen Afridi fell to fast bowler Anrich Nortje for zero and it was 27/4.

Earlier, opting to bat after winning the toss, South Africa were all out for a modest 220 in 69.2 overs with opener Dean Elgar scoring 58 in 106 balls with 9 fours and spinner George Linde scoring 35 in 64 balls with 5 fours. Faf du Plessis fell to spinner Yasir Shah for 23 in 46 balls with 4 fours while captain Quinton de Kock fell to left arm spinner Nauman Ali for 15. Kagiso Rabada remained unbeaten on 21 in 36 balls with 3 fours and 1 six. South Africa are playing test match in Pakistan after a gap of nearly 14 years.

For Pakistan, spinner Yasir Shah took 3/54 in 22 overs while fast bowler Shaheen Afridi took 2/49 in 11.2 overs. Spinner Nauman Ali, 34, took 2/38 in 17 overs.
