Muzaffarpur : The Muzaffarpur unit of Indian Medical Association (IMA) has claimed the number of diabetes patients has crossed five lakh mark in North Bihar. Dr Satya Prakash Tiwary of IMA, Muzaffarpur, on February 5 said that of these over 5 lakh diabetes patients, 65% suffer from vision impairment.

He said that the central and state government would have to make an action plan and work in a mission mode to check diabetes. Dr Tiwary said that Bihar is a poor state and there is also shortage of doctors in the state. Muzafarpur comprising 16 blocks is an important district of North Bihar and is headquarters of Tirhut division.

Meanwhile, District Malaria Officer, Muzaffarpur, Dr Satish Kumar, on February 5 said that Paroo and Saraiyya blocks of the district figure among the 93 blocks in the country considered high risk zone for Kala-azar. He said that a special plan has been prepared to combat Kala-azar in the district. A special drive would be launched after February 9 in the district to check the disease, said Dr Kumar.
