Motihari : More than 52 villages  under Sugauli, Areraj, Kesariya,and Sangrampur Blocks in East Champaran District in North Bihar were inundated on June 20, 2021, night, as rivers Gandak, Burhi Gandak, Bangari,Tilawe, and Dudhaura, are in spate and touching  danger level near 4 points near Dumariyaghat and  Sugauli  in the wake of continuous rain for  the last 8 days in the district.
River Burhi Gandak  is flowing over an embankment at village Lalparasa.  According to  Disaster Management Department (DMD) sources, one  Kajal Kumai,  7,  drowned in floodwater.  The body was fished out by the villagers.

ADM (Disaster Management) Anil Kumar said that the flood water  has entered 52 villages  under 24 panchayats affecting 45,000 people. Around 4,000 flood affected people with their cattle have taken shelter at safer places under Kesariya, Sangrampur, Sugauli, and Areraj blocks. More than 40 houses were eroded at Bhawanipur village  under Sugauli block due to  flood in river Burhi. The homeless persons have taken shelter on NH 28A near Sugauli. Abhimanyu Mahto of Bhawanipur said that his house was eroded by flood and he has lost everything.

The flood water has entered Nayaka Tola, Bishunpur, Mahadeo Tola and 5 feet deep water is flowing on roads in rural areas. More than 500 people have taken  shelter on Champaran Embankment near Bhawanipur under Kesariya block. Shalini Mishra, MLA, distributed food and other essential commodities among flood affected people.
