Patna : Fourth seed Naomi Osaka, 22, Japan, 23rd seed Yulia Putintseva, 25, Kazakhstan, and unseeded Shelby Rogers, 27, USA,have entered the women’s singles quarter-finals of US Open (tennis) at Newyork City, Newyork, USA.

Osaka, the 2018 US Open and 2019 Australian Open champion, beat 14th seed Anett Kontaveit, 24, Estonia, in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 in their Round of 16 match on September 7, 2020, winning three break points. Osaka served 4 Aces in the match to 2 by Kontaveit. Osaka also won 3 games in a row in the match. She will face Shelby Rogers, USA, in QFs on September 8, 2020.

Shelby Rogers stunned 6th seed Petra Kvitova, 30, Czech Republic, the winner of two Wimbledon singles titles, in three-sets 7-6, 3-6, 7-6 in Round of 16 to set up a QFs match with Naomi Osaka. Kvitova though won 4 break points in the match to 2 by Rogers. She also fired 8 Aces in the match to 6 by the American.But, she also committed 7 double faults to 2 by Rogers. Both the players won 3 games each in a row in the match. Kvitova’s winning percentage both on her first and second serve was much better that of Rogers’. Rogers, however, won both the tie-breaks.

Putintseva beat 8th seed Petra Martic, 29, Croatia, in three-sets 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 in Round of 16 on September 6, 2020, late night, to set up a QFs match with 28th seed Jennifer Brady, USA. Both the players won 4 break points each in the match. Martic though served 4 Aces to 1 by Putinseva. But, Putintseva won 5 games in a row to 4 by Martic.
