Patna : Fourth seed Naomi Osaka, 22, Japan, won her second US Open (Tennis) women’s title at Arthur Ashe Stadium, Newyork City, Newyork, USA, on September 13, 2020, defeating former World No 1 Victoria Azarenka, 31, Belarus, in pulsating three-set finals 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 coming back from one set down. The match lasted 1hr 53 minutes. Osaka has now won three Grand Slam singles title, her 6th career title.

Osaka, 5ft.11In, had won her first US Open title in 2018 defeating Serena Williams, USA, in the finals. She had also won Australian Open singles title in 2019.  For two-time former Australian Open Champion Azarenka, it was her third defeat in the US Open Finals. She had lost in the US Open Finals to Serena Williams in 2012 and 2013. Azarenka had won Australian Open title in 2012 and 2013.

Azarenka was all over Osaka in the first set winning it 6-1. But, the Japanese star regrouped and won the next two sets 6-3, 6-3. Osaka won 5 break points to 6 by unseeded Azarenka. But, Osaka fired 6 Aces in the match to 3 by the Belarussian. Both the players committed two double faults each. Azarenka won 6 games in a row in the match to 5 by the Japanese.

Azarenka’s winning percentage on her second serve was 100% to 50 of Osaka’s. Her winning percentage on her second serve (60%) was also better than that of Osaka’s (58%).
