Muzaffarpur : One more Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) patient, a six year old girl Aarti from Vaishali district, died at Sri Krishna Medical College Hospital ( SKMCH), Muzaffarpur, on May 5, 2017, night. She was undergoing treatment at SKMCH for the last few days.

Aarti’s  parents have, however, alleged that the doctors remain absent from duty during night hours. They alleged that when Aarti’s condition deteriorated on May 5 night no senior doctor was present at the hospital. SKMCH Deputy Superintendent Dr S K Shahi described it as a serious charge and said appropriate action would be taken after an inquiry into the allegations. On May 4, Neha, 8, of Sitamarhi district had died due to AES at SKMCH.

With this the number of AES/  Japanese Encephalitis (JE) patients dying at the hospital has increased to four this year, according SKMCH superintendent Dr G K Thakur. Six AES and two JE patients were admitted to SKMCH of which two AES and two JE patients died during treatment. Three AES patients were discharged from the hospital after they recovered while one patient is still under treatment.
