Patna : Second seed Victor Axelsen, 27, Denmark, beat top seed Kento Momota, 27, Japan, in a three-game thriller in final to win the men’s singles title at Victor Denmark Open, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 1,000 badminton tournament, at Odense, Denmark, on October 24, 2021.

Reigning Olympic champion Axelsen beat two-tme World Champion Momota 20-22, 21-18, 21-12 in 1hr 33 minutes in final at Odense Sports Park, Odense, Denmark, rallying back from one game down. Axelsen, in all, won 62 points during the match to 52 by Momota. The Japanese, however, won 8 consecutive points in the match to 5 by the Dane.

Second seed Akana Yamaguchi, Japan, won the women’s singles title after 5th seed A N Seyoung, South Korea, retired in the third game in final trailing 5-16. A N Seyoung had won the first game 18-21 while Yamaguchi won the second game 25-23. The Japanese was leading 16-5 in third game when the South Korean retired.
