Patna:  Qayamuddin Ansari, officer-in-charge of Kothi police station (PS) in Gaya district, 125 km from Patna, was shot dead by some unidentified persons early Monday morning. DIG of Magadh range of police, Saurabh Kumar,  said the police officer was on morning walk near the police station when three motorcycle borne youths intercepted him 200 metres away from the PS and one of them fired indiscriminately on him killing him on the spot.
Some eye witnesses told police that Ansari used to  have morning walk in the same area daily. They saw a speedy motorcycle stopping near the PSI and heard bullet sounds.The DIG said police were investigating the incident from all angles. “It may be an act of criminals,”he said and  added since the area was infested with naxal  activities, naxal  involvement was also being investigated. Kothi  is close to Palamu district in neighbouring Jharkhand state, another Maoists affected area.
Senior SP of Gaya Garima Malik, who rushed to the police station, said raids were being conducted to nab the criminals. A special investigation team headed by additional SP has been constituted.Last month, a police assistant sub-inspector of Nalanda district Raja Ram Chaudhury was also snot dead on national highway.
