Patna : New Zealand (NZ) scored 431 in 155 overs in their first innings in the 1st test against Pakistan at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui, NZ, on Day 2 as captain Kane Williamson, 30, scored 129 in 297 balls with 12 fours and 1 six, his 23rd test century. At stumps on Day 2, Pakistan were 30/1 in 20 overs as opener Shan Masood fell to fast medium bowler Kyle Jamieson for 10.

Resuming at their overnight score of 222/3, NZ lost their 4th wicket that of Henry Nicholls when the score reached 266. Nicholls fell to fast bowler Naseem Shah, 17, for 56 in 137 balls with 8 fours. Williamson and Nicholls added 133 runs for the 4th wicket. Williamson fell to spinner Yasir Shah for 129 and it was 281/5. Spinner Mitchell SantnerĀ  fell to medium fast bowler Faheem Ashraf for 19 with 2 fours and 1 six making it 317/6.

Kyle Jamieson fell to fast medium bowler Mohd Abbas for 32 in 69 balls hitting a four and a six and it was 383/7. Jamieson and B J Watling (wk) added 66 runs for the 8th wicket. Tim Southee fell to Yasir Shah for zero making it 388/8. Watling fell to fast bowler Shaheen Afridi for 73 in 145 balls with 8 fours and it was 421/9. Neil Wagner fell to Yasir Shah for 19 in 36 balls with 2 fours and NZ were all out for 431.

For Pakistan, fast bowler Shaeen Afridi took 4/109 while spinner Yasir Shah, 34, took 3/113.
