Patna : Captain Kane Stuart Williamson, 28, scored an unbeaten 200 in 257 balls with 19 fours, his 20th test century and 2nd double century, as New Zealand (NZ) declared their first innings at 715/6 in 163 overs in the first test against Bangladesh at Seddon Park, Hamilton, New Zealand, on day 3 on March 2, 2019, crossing the 700 mark in an innings for the first time in their test history. At stumps on day 3, Bangladesh were 174/4 in 43 overs in their second innings with Soumya Sarkar batting on 39 and captain Mahmudullah batting on 15. Bangladesh are still trailing by 307 runs. Bangladesh had scored 234 in their first innings.
Resuming at their overnight score of 451/4 with Williamson batting on 93, New Zealand added 264 runs before declaring their declaring their first innings at 715/6. New Zealand lost their 5th wicket when fast bowler Neil Wagner fell to Ebadat Hossain for 47 in 35 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes. Wicketkeeper WJ Watling fell to spinner Mehidy Hasan for 31 making it 605/6. Williamson added 110 runs with all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme for the 7th wicket. Grandhomme remained unbeaten on 76 in 53 balls with 4 fours and 5 sixes. Openers Jeet Raval and Tom Latham had scored 132 and 161 runs respectively on day 2.
Bangladesh started their second innings on a confident note with openers Tamim Iqbal and Shadman Islam scoring 74 and 37 runs respectively adding 88 runs for the first wicket. Iqbal fell to fast bowler Tim Southee for 74 in 86 balls with 12 fours and a six, his 26th test fifty, while Shadman fell to Neil Wagner for 37 in 71 balls with 5 fours making it 100/2. Mominul Haque fell to fast bowler Trent Boult for 8. Mohammad Mithun also fell to Boult for zero making it 126/4.
