Patna : New Zealand (NZ) crushed Sri Lanka (SL) by 423 runs in the 2nd test at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, New Zealand, in the first session of the play on fifth day on December 30, 2018, winning the two-match series 1-0. This was New Zealand’s fourth successive series victory in 2018. New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee, who took 5 wickets in the match and top scored with 68 in New Zealand’s first innings, was declared Player of the Match.

Set a target of 660, Sri Lanka, resuming at their overnight score of 231/6, were all out for 236 in their second innings in just 14 deliveries on day 5 on December 30, 2018, with captain Dinesh Chandimal scoring 56 and Kusal Mendis 67. Fast bowler Neil Wagner took 4/48 while Trent Boult took 3/77. Tim Southee took 2/61. Boult took 9 wickets in the match.

Sri Lanka had won the toss but opted to bowl. New Zealand were all out for 178 in their first innings. In reply, Sri Lanka were all out for 104 in their first innings. New Zealand declared their second innings at 585/4 with open Tom Latham scoring 176  and Henry Nicholls an unbeaten 162.
