Patna : New Zealand (NZ) beat India by five wickets in the 3rd ODI at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui, NZ, on February 11, 2020, giving a 3-0 whitewash to the visitors in the three-match series avenging their 0-5 loss in the five-match T20I series recently. Chasing a target of 297 runs, NZ scored 300/5 in 47.1 overs with 17 balls to spare. Henry Nicholls was declared Player of the Match while Ross Taylor was declared Player of the Series. NZ won the toss but opted to bowl.
India’s No 1 bowler Jasprit Bumrah went wicketless in the ODI series while captain Virat Kohli scored just 75 runs in the series including 51 in 1st ODI.
Colin de Grandhomme remained unbeaten on 58 in 28 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes while Tom Latham (wk) remained unbeaten on 32 in 34 balls with 3 fours sending the Indian fast bowlers on leather hunt. Latham and Grandhomme added 80 runs in their unbroken partnership for the 6th wicket. Colin de Grandhomme hit fast bowler Shardul Thakur for 3 fours and a six in his 9th over, the 46th of the innings. In fact, he completed his fifty in just 21 balls.
Chasing the target, NZ openers martin Guptil and Henry Nicholls gave a solid start to their team adding 106 funs for the first wicket. Guptil fell to spinner Yuzvendra Chahal for 66 in 46 balls hitting 6 fours and 4 sixes and it was 106/1. Captain Kane Williamson fell to Chahal for 22 hitting 2 fours and it was 159/2. Ross Taylor fell to Ravindra Jadeja for 12 making it 186/3. Nicholls fell to Shardul Thakur for 80 hitting 9 fours and it was 189/4. James Neesham also fell to Chahal for 19 in 25 balls hitting a four and a six and it was 220/5.
For India, Chahal took 3/47 in 10 overs while Ravindra Jadeja took 1/45 in 10 overs. Shardul Thakur took 1/87 in 9.1 overs.
Batting first, India scored a competitive 296/7 in 50 overs with Lokesh Rahul (wk) scoring 112 in 113 balls hitting 9 fours and 2 sixes, his 4th ODI ton, and Shreyas Iyer, who had scored century in 1st ODI and a half-century in 2nd ODI, scoring 62. Opener Prithvi Shaw was run out for 40 hitting 3 fours and 2 sixes and Manish Pandey scored 42.For NZ, fast bowler Hamish Bennett took 4/64 in 10 overs.
