Patna : New Zealand defeated England by an innings and 49 runs on the fifth day of the first cricket test, a day/ night test, at Eden Park, Auckland, New Zealand, on March 26, 2018. New Zealand fast bowler Trent Boult was declared Man of the Match for taking 9 wickets in the test – six in England’s first innings and three in second innings. New Zealand now lead the two-match test series 1-0.

Resuming at their overnight score of 132/3 still requiring another 237 runs to avoid the innings defeat and save the test, England were all out for 320 in their second innings on March 26, 2018, with all rounder Ben Stokes scoring 66 in 188 balls with 6 fours and bowler Chris Woakes making 52 in 118 balls with 8 fours. Moeen Ali made 28, Dawid Malan 23, and wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow 26. England captain Joe Root was out for 51 on day 4 while opener Mark Stoneman was out for 55.

For New Zealand, Boult, Neil Wagner and spinner Todd Astle took three wickets each in England’s second innings. Tim Southee took one wicket.

England were all out for only 58 in their first innings on day one. New Zealand had declared declared their first innings at 427/7 with Captain Kane Williamson and Henry Nicholls scoring centuries. England made 320 in their second innings.
