Patna : New Zealand (NZ) were 94/4 in 42 overs at stumps on day 4 in their second innings in 2nd test against South Africa (SA) at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, NZ, on February 28, 2022, with Devon Conway unbeaten on 60 in 127 balls with 8 fours and Tom Blundell (wk) batting on 1. NZ need to score 332 runs on day 5 to win the test with 6 wickets in hand.

Set a target of 426 runs, NZ had terrible start losing the wickets of both the openers : Tom Latham ( captain) and Will Young, with only 6 runs on board. Will Young fell to fast bowler Kagiso Rabada for zero making it 4/1. Captain Latham, who was out for zero in first innings, also fell to Rabada for 1 making it 6/2 Henry Nicholls fell to spinner Keshav Maharaj for 7 and it was 25/3. Daryl Mitchell was bowled by Maharaj for .24 and it was 84/4. Conway and Mitchell added 56 runs for the 4th wicket.

Earlier, resuming at their overnight score of 140/5, SA declared their second innings at 354/9 in 100 overs with Kyle Verreynne (wk) scoring an 136 runs in 187 balls hitting 16 fours and 1 six, his maiden test century, and Kagiso Rabada scoring a blistering 47 in 34 balls hitting 4 fours and 4 sixes.

SA had scored 364 runs in their first innings as opener Sarel Erwee scored 108 runs. NZ had scored 293 runs in their first inningsĀ  with batting all-rounder Colin de Granhomme scoring an unbeaten 120 runs.
