Patna : Wicketkeeper B J Watling scored an unbeaten 119 in 298 balls with 15 fours, his 8th test century, as New Zealand (NZ) reached 394/6 in 141 overs at stumps on Day 3 in their first innings in 1st test against England at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui, New Zealand, on November 23, 2019, taking a lead of 41 runs. England were all out for 353 in 124 overs in their first innings on Day 2 and New Zealand were 144/4 at stumps on November 22, 2019.
NZ lost their 5th wicket that of Henry Nicholls at 197. Nicholls fell to England captain Joe Root for 41 in 125 balls with 5 fours making it 197/5. Nicholls and Watling added 70 runs for the 5th wicket. In came all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme and hit 65 runs in 108 balls adding 119 runs for the 6th wicket with Watling changing the direction of the game.
Grandhomme fell to England all-rounder Ben Stokes making it 316/6. Watling and spinner Mitchell Santner have added 78 runs in 185 balls in their unbroken partnership for the 7th wicket. Santner is unbeaten on 31 in 103 balls with 1 four and a six. NZ lost only two wickets on Day 3 and added 250 runs to their overnight score.
For England, Ben Stokes and Sam Curran have taken two wickets each while Joe Root and Jack leach have taken one wicket each.
